Free Healthcare Finance: An Introduction to Accounting and Financial Management, Fourth Edition
I used Gapenski's text in my first healthcare finance course. It provided excellent examples and models that I later used in more advanced courses as well as in my career.
By J. Denning
I graduated from University of Maryland, and then from Physical Therapy school at UMD Baltimore, and after 7 years of post secondary education I've never had a textbook that made me as frustrated as this book. I'm working toward an MBA/MHA and the professors are having us use this book. I hate it. It's poorly organized, provides poor explanations, and has very few charts and tables for learning the actual numbers behind all of the concepts (the charts and tables that are provided are in black and white). Even our professors (some of who have met Gapenski before) say they don't like the book, and that there are many errors in it. I know there are plenty of errors, especially in their math, because they've cost me lots of extra time while working through exercises.
Overall, I would never wish is book on anyone again, or even think or recommending it. If your professor wants to use it, beg him, plead with him or her not to use it!
