I own both the 2008 and the 2010 editions of "Programming in Visual Basic 20xx", there is no real significant difference between both editions. So if you have "Programming in Visual Basic 2008" and are happy with it, then there is no reason to get this book (it contains the same exact chapters, programming exercises etc.). As for learning VB, the book does an ok job. The authors lose focus in what they talk about from time to time, particularly when explaining OOP(object-oriented programming). Some chapters are also very condensed, but overall does a decent job explaining some of the fundamentals of Visual Basic. The reason I give this book 3 stars is because I didn't want to review the other book since it was the same as this one, but I really give this one a 1 since there is nothing different, it's an unnecessary edition.
(Also one thing to note, this is a student textbook.)

I purchased this text for an entry course in Visual Basic. I have taken other VB courses since VB 2005 and acquired the texts for such. In comparison to those this text is more in-depth coding-wise, straight to the point, but not a lot of clear step by step. If you are an amateur VB programmer like myself this text fills in the blanks in many areas but not in complex areas such as printing in VB. For people that are new you will have to read the text carefully or you will miss something, and without warning or stressing from the authors. Good book throughout, I won't be selling it.
