Free iOS 6 Application Development For Dummies
I am just breaking into the app biz. Having no background in programming what so ever, I felt quite intimidated by the scope of this undertaking. I tired this way and that, and although I was learning, I still felt lost.
This book is giving me chance to see the forest, rather than just the trees. I have a better perspective now, which is a relief.
One more thing, when I was stuck and couldn't figure out something, (I spent time trying to on my own first, which is important) Neal Goldstein was fast, helpful and encouraging in answering my queries by eMail.
For the absolute beginner, I strongly recommend this book!

I usually love the "For Dummies" books. Most offer an excellent primer for a technology so you can jump into deeper books by other publishers with no sweat. This one, however, was just horrible. The writing style was dry and the humor fell flat. it drags on and on for chapter after chapter of minutiae with little snippets of coding spaced out every fifty pages or so.
I have ten years of programming under my belt and this book was hard for me to follow. That's not a good thing for something marketed to completely new developers. I bought it as a quick primer for my job, hoping I could read through it and be at least competent in Xcode and Objective C in a week or so. I got bogged down around a third of the way in and ended up returning the book in favor of Apple's free online tutorials. I would NOT recommend.
