Free Lippincott Williams & Wilkins' Medical Assisting Exam Review for CMA, RMA & CMAS Certification
My MA program lasted a year and a half going straight thru summer. I worked my butt off and got a 4.0, but still wanted to review for the certification test. Thought this book would bring everything back together for me. Although I think the book itself is great as far as the information it gave..everything in it is just what we should know BUT..its suppose to be a review for the exam. I took the exam and don't remember one question asked that was in this book. The exam was a bunch of ridiculous questions...not what we should know to be a great MA. So ya its the test that sucks, but this book was suppose to prepare us for the TEST not for working as an MA. SO thats why the bad review. Its great to review your knowledge, but not for taking the exam. I did pass the test...when I was taking the exam I was doubtful or thought I may pass by the skin of my teeth, but later I got the actual results and I got 90% on the clinical part, 85% on another section and 64% on General. so I averaged 84. When I took each exam in the book (without reading the chapter first) I averaged 96%. So hopefully this gives you some idea about this book. Good Luck. Also at end of certification test I told them how bad their test is and get a better test together that actually test info you will need to know to be a great MA.
Oh, also I thought those 2 reviews before mine were not good reviews because they were just reviewing what they thought of the book would do...they hadn't taken the exam to really make an honest comparison.

I live in the state of Washington and graduated from a nine month program in Seattle in 2010. My GPA was 3.87 when I graduated and I found work as a Medical Assistant right away so I didn't take the CMA certification test. Well, I finally got around to taking the test yesterday and passed after using this book (not my textbook from school) exclusively. It helped me tremendously in that I graduated 3 years ago and all the information in the book was pertinent to the test material, and most of the material in the book was included on the test. I especially liked the detailed study guides and practice tests you can take at the back of the book and after each chapter to quiz yourself and to prepare for the real exam.
I would say almost 99% of the questions asked on the test were covered in the book; there were several that I hadn't a clue what they were talking about but it's ok to guess on the test without being penalized so that's what I did. I studied less than 2 months due to work schedule, approximately 1 month in all and I utilized the suggestions in the book on how to study, how long and when. It worked obviously for me and I am very glad that I made the investment and purchased this book. My school recommended I study from this book and I am glad that I took their suggestion. The test is not as hard as I thought it was going to be probably because I felt prepared.
