Known for its clear, straightforward writing style, comprehensive coverage, strong and current research-based approach, and excellent visuals and tables, this life-span development text offers a topical organization at the chapter level and a consistent chronological presentation within each chapter. Each chapter focuses on a domain of development such as physical growth, cognition, or personality, and traces developmental trends and influences in that domain from infancy to old age. Within each chapter, you will find sections on four life stages: infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. This unique organization enables students to comprehend the processes of transformation that occur in key areas of human development. Another staple of the text is its emphasis on theories and how they apply to specific topics in each chapter. This new edition also asks students to engage more actively with the content, and includes a clear focus on the complex interactions of nature and nurture in development, more integrated coverage of culture and diversity, and an exciting new media package for both students and instructors.

Good Text; However, I purchased the CourseMate for Sigelman/Rider's Life-Span Human Development on the cengagebrain.com website for interactive learning @ $40 cost. I discovered that the entire text is available via the coursemate including chapter quizes and you can print out the chapters in needed. In Sum, I bought a $150 text book for my developmental psych class when all I needed was the $40 coursemate.

This is ONLY a review of Cengage, not the book itself--I will NEVER use Cengage again! I thought I was buying a Kindle version, however it is NOT DOWNLOADABLE. You must have internet access and a Kindle Fire to view it. Reading it on the Cengage website is frustrating because the viewing window only allows you to see a small portion of the page at a time. VERY ANNOYING. Customer support is mixed--they are not all well-informed on how Cengage works and I've been put on hold for long periods of time. In order to get help, they put you through an annoying process of getting a customer service number and making you view FAQ first. I also have found access slow at times. I paid $110 and I wish i had just put the money into purchasing the actual book.
