Free Two Scoops of Django: Best Practices for Django 1.5
If you are a professional Django developer (or want to be one, and who wouldn't? there is a huge demand for them), you should pick up this book. Two Scoops of Django: Best Practices for Django 1.5 is written and edited by Django experts with years of experience on the platform. Rather than spending time gleaning bits and tips here and there on random blogs, spend a few bucks and feast on this super-sized serving of advice.
I appreciated the treatment on Class-Based Views as these are a new feature to Django 1.5. I also enjoyed the chapters on forms as existing coverage of forms and patterns regarding their use has been less clear than it could be.
Another invaluable aspect of the book that you won't find in core documentation is the suggestions on 3rd party apps. They are included in almost every chapter. The authors have already done the hard work for you and evaluated, tested, and recommended the best apps to use in your project. This will kickstart your project and save you hours of time creating your app rather than exploring and evaluating options.
This book has the latest best practices to make sure your project starts heading in the right direction and stays that way. I will certainly be referencing it on my next Django project!

Being newer to Django myself, this book shed a lot of light on opinionated best practices by experienced Django developers. It this this sort of information that is most valuable as these individuals have been doing it and learned the hard way. In an effort to work smarter, not harder, read the book, pick up tips, tricks, lessons learned and make your life easier!
