Free Introduction to Java Programming, Brief Version
Be aware that the star rating is from buying the print version. The book is excellent, hence the five stars but I hate sneaky pricing. This is a very good Java book but be aware that this brief edition is a subset of the comprehensive edition. For some insane reason, this shorter electronic book costs almost twenty dollars more than the larger, more complete version of exactly the same content (first n chapters of the comprehensive version constitute the brief version). Kindle books are not heavy and you will be glad that you bought the version that has the additional chapters. Even if you do not need the additional chapters and you only bought this book to pass a class; do yourself a favor and buy the cheaper kindle format of the comprehensive version.

Pretty standard textbook. Decent example problems. I probably wouldnt recommend it as a self-teaching book, but good if you have someone teaching you I guess.
