Free CompTIA Security+ SY0-301 Authorized Cert Guide
This product IS a good source of info for the SYS-301 test, but... I bought this version because it complimented the Network+ N10-005 course I did previously. It also used the same testing engine for the practice tests that I already had installed on my PC. I thought the Network+ book was phenomenal in preparing you for that test. Unfortunately, the Security+ book is written by a different author and, in my opinion, does not do 100% thorough job of presenting the relevant info. He tends to be wordy, anecdotal, somewhat less that serious at times and refers you to outside sources frequently. This was the only source I used to get ready for the exam. I did pass with an 822 (not great). I took 6 weeks to prepare and basically memorized everything between the covers. I consistently scored 900s on my timed practice exams. I meticulously researched questions I got wrong to understand the concepts better. I felt very prepared for the actual exam. That being said, the test itself had questions about things that I didn't find in the book. I will admit that I am new to this field and, though I have worked with networks quite a bit, I don't have a lot of hands on experience with the security side of the coin. Bottom line is this: IF you do not have a lot of experience in the IT field, use more than one source to really prepare you for the SYS-301 exam.

I have been in the IT field for 14 years but was strictly dealing with software. I took the Sec+ exam the first time (used web and other materials) and failed (scored a 678). I found David Prowse's website THAT day and soon had my hands on this book. I can't say enough good things about the layout and how the material was presented for us non-security IT folks. It was not a quick review guide that left you clueless on exam day. It is a thorough and easy to grasp cert guide that will prepare you for the exam. I passed today with an 853. THANK YOU David L.
