Appropriate for all basic-to-intermediate level courses in Visual C# 2012 programming.
Created by world-renowned programming instructors Paul and Harvey Deitel, Visual C# 2012 How to Program, Fifth Edition introduces all facets of the C# 2012 language hands-on, through hundreds of working programs. This book has been thoroughly updated to reflect the major innovations Microsoft has incorporated in Visual C# 2012; all discussions and sample code have been carefully audited against the newest Visual C# language specification.
Students begin by getting comfortable with the C# Express 2012 IDE and basic Visual C# syntax. Next, they build their skills one step at a time, mastering control structures, classes, objects, methods, variables, arrays, and the core techniques of object-oriented programming. With this strong foundation in place, the Deitels introduce more sophisticated techniques, including searching, sorting, data structures, generics, and collections. Throughout, the authors show students how to make the most of Microsoft’s Visual Studio tools. A series of appendices provide essential programming reference material.

I purchased this book as I had previously learnt Java using a book from the same publishers and thought this might be a good book to understand the C# way of doing things.
The book has challenging end of chapter exercises, which I find are really helpful. Some books don't contain ANY exercises. I would have liked to see the Self-Review exercises located at the end of each relevant sub-section, as per Introduction to Java Programming 9th Edition by Y. Daniel Liang.
There are a few things that the authors skip over, which should have a separate detailed section. For example Section 14.3.3 introduces Delegates in 1 page. Another textbook I borrowed from the local library had a whole section on delegates and presented them in a more general way than just applicable to GUI Events and it was much easier to understand.
Another thing that I find disappointing is that the Companion Website that is supposed to contain all of the Online Web Chapters is still not complete and my 12 month access code is just getting wasted. Only 5 of the 12 Web Chapters are available at the time of writing this review.
Overall, it is a good enough book for learning the basics of C#.

While the book is very detailed in nature, it assume that you dont know anything about programming which is good for a beginner. As a weathered Java programmer this book is a little too detailed in the beginning chapters. The exercises are very well written and executed. However, I dont care for the Feel Good exercises to bring morals to the world. Leave that up to the people itself.
Very well book and explained the concept good.
