Free Java Programming: From Problem Analysis to Program Design
I am reading this Kindle book on an IPad for a class. There is NO INDEX, there are no page numbers. There is no easy way to tell when you start a chapter how long it will take you - 1/2 an hour, 3 hours?? You can highlight and make notes but when you access those highlights and notes they all show up in one huge list - there is no way to tell which chapter the highlight was made in. Maybe there are techniques for these highlighting/notes issues - one thing I've started to do is make a note at the start of every chapter or section where I have highlights, so at least I can put the chapter number in that note...
The table of contents lists only chapter heads - not sections - so it is a pretty rough cut. Locations in the book are in some electronic numbering scheme (they go from 0 to 31000) which is not noted in the table of contents - so you can go to a chapter start via the table of contents, after that you are pretty much stuck paging through the book page by page to find a section in that chapter you might be looking for.
I ended up buying a previous version of this book for $20 just so I could compensate for these issues.
I do like not having to lug around a 3+ pound textbook all the time.
I would never buy this book on a Kindle again because, although it makes it convenient to read, going back to find something you read is practically impossible.

Purchased the book as part of the text-book requirement for course-work. I have already gone into the Chapter 3. The explanations are made simple and make sense. End of chapter does have some good exercises that help think differently. Unlike many other text-book end-of-chapter exercises, this book's exercises cover different aspects taught in the chapter. I doubt if an absolute beginner to the subject; Java or Programming, would appreciate it.
