This book was required for my class. It seems that the author could have combined chapters and go more in depths about attacks and defenses. Instead he spends chapters talking about a base technology like wi-fi. The different varialtions, thier make up, when that spec was ratified. But a few pages about wi fi attacks and one should use encryption. That's it? I think the scope of the book spent to much time explaining the network and not enough on the defense of the network. I think this may be limited to my institution but the book and the course should be split into two parts. Part one learn what a network consist of. Part two defend the network.

The activities in this book sometimes require you to do independent research outside of the book. In a classroom setting this can lead to many different answers to a single question. One activity was to explain how to set up a failover firewall. You're asked to do this immediately after reading a short two sentence blurb about what a failover firewall is. There is no explanation of how to set it up so you go off to the internet and figure it out. This is nice for teaching people how to Google, which is a valuable skill in itself, but when I pay a lot of money for a college textbook I expect it to PROVIDE ME with what I need to know in order to complete the projects and activities contained within it. Another example is that it provided a bit of syntax and information on Access Control Lists and then asked you to design your own ACL commands. Unfortunately the book does not provide the necessary information to create some of the more complex commands, so it's off to the old search engine again.
