Free Exceptional Leadership: 16 Critical Competencies for Healthcare Executives
I had the pleasure of reading Exceptional Leadership: 16 Critical Competencies for Healthcare Executives for a project for my small group communication course and I was very happy that I choose this book. I really enjoyed the way the book was laid out and was very easy to read.
I liked the way that the cornerstones were laid out in the beginning with a brief overview of each and how they would all come together to make an exceptional leader. As I read on through this book and into each chapter to a greater description of each cornerstone and into each section of the cornerstone of management. The explanation of each step was well written and very easy to understand. One of the major points that I enjoyed was the way the charts that were highlighted explained the good as well as the bad points for each point that was being explained in that chapter.
I was able to give a great description of each portion and then sum up all that was explained without a great effort. I am encouraged to ask several of my co-workers to read this book to help them become better employees and to also build on their leadership skills to become a better leader in our department.
Thank you.

Overall, I would rate this book as okay. Drives home the message of the importance of energizing your team and developing key attributes to effectively manage others. There was not much original material included in this text. I would describe it as a "meta analysis" of best practices for healthcare leaders. One of the best features of this book is that the end of each chapter contains references to books for future study about the topic discussed in the chapter. To that end, the majority of the books recommended in the book are also great reads.
