I am taking a Gerontology class at SFSU, where the 3rd edition of this book is being used. However, I rented an electronic version of the 4th edition, which was just published in jan-2013. This book is tailored for geriatric care managers--which I do not plan to be--but it is easily readable by non-Gerontologists like myself. In fact, it summarizes the background information about the government's aging network, and it covers all physical, social, and emotional aspects of aging. I'm only at chapter 4, but I really enjoy reading this textbook because it is easy to read, gets to the point simply, is nicely formatted, and teaches one to solve geriatric problems from a positive, practical, applied strengths perspective. See, I didn't even know what strengths perspective was before I started this book...
Even the gerontology majors in my class have told me this book is valuable and useful to them. Note that between the 3rd and 4th edition, the author updated the review questions so that they are all practical, challenging situations for discussion.

Update: I finished reading the entire text, and my opinion remains that this book is overwhelmingly helpful in providing a solid background in geriatric issues and practice. The reference list for each chapter is extensive. If you need to do geriatric assessments, then you should also read Cathy Cress' Handbook of Geriatric Care Management, which has extensive procedural how-to's.

This book did not have the code in it to go online to study and take sample test. Maybe the University bought the code with the book on campus.
