This is a very impressive book. Like the author, I too am a big fan of Manga Studio and the recently released EX 5 is the third version of this drawing and painting application that I've used. The author knows her way around this application, plus she writes in a friendly and engaging manner. She takes a detailed look at the many new brush variables of version 5, which I appreciate because, in my opinion, MS is better than more well-known painting apps. Her reasoning for using the Multiply Combine Mode for pencils is one I hadn't considered before and her use of the Mix color tab for controlling flesh tones is brilliant. This is the first book about a digital illustration app that I've seen addressing the differences between left- and right-handed setups and there are several other features which I'll be revisiting, after reading her reasons for incorporating them into her workflow.
Finally, a list of "Podcasts to listen to while working" in the Appendix is a great idea because I think an illustrator drawing without a podcast or music in the background is like a baseball without seams. I've gladly added this book to my reference library.

When mastering a program like Manga Studio 5, it’s best to have a very clear, easily understood manual and something that you can reference quickly when necessary. Mastering Manga Studio 5 by Elizabeth Ann Staley is a good source for guidance and information. Elizabeth does an great job explaining the many functions of the program without getting caught up in the technical aspects and terminology. As long as you know the basics (this is not a beginner’s guide or a ‘How To’), this is a book that increases one's competence with the program. I know I will refer to this book multiple times in the future for help and for when I need to figure out how to do a specific thing or use a specific feature. The best thing about this book for me was the material on how to create custom pencils, ink tools and brushes; the 3D modeling features; and how to manipulate outside images into drawings. If you are into creating comic books strips, or art in general, Manga Studio 5 is an incredible asset, and this book guides you from being a beginner to a novice in very little time at all. Very easy to follow along with and I recommend it.
