Free Mastering Autodesk Revit Architecture 2013
Learning Revit is very frustrating because there isn't one single complete learning source, you have to be jumping from Autodesk's help to blogs to videos to books to articles, etc etc in order to finally assemble your own puzzle and apply one command. This book is not that complete source either, but it sure is the most comprehensive one I've ever found. It covers almost everything in Revit 2013 in a very direct and practical manner, not vague at all, you get hands on every topic.
Commands and topics are thoroughly explained and explored, the exercises are very helpful, and the internet downloads that come with the book are of tremendous value.
If I didn't rate 5 stars on this one it's because I have one complaint about this book. Many times when going through the exercises, the authors seem to want to "save book space" or "save ink" and they just don't explain all the steps. You're following the exercise successfuly, and then all of a sudden you see the illustration transformed in such a way that makes you wonder for several hours how on earth did they achieve it. I know it's good for teachers to make pupils think and use their brains, but for people who buy these kind of books we expect to be helped by being provided with the complete know-how. We're paying for it, but it appears that there is a "global conspiration" (ha ha) where Revit needs to remain as a cult software in which only a chosen few can have the knowledge for its full understanding.
I only wish this book had an extensive coverage on families, but I know that's a huge topic just by itself that probably deserves another 1090 page book. Authors of this book, if you release a Revit Families handbook I am here to buy it!!!
